Description
Hardcover Book 260 Pages
Volume Ill of Death From Afar is called The Black Book because we include items of interest that might not fit in other volumes. Our cover is an appropriate example. As predicted in DFA II, The Corps has attempted to clamp down on the use of skulls, crossed bones, tattoos, branding and the like. Marines still like such things, and they appear often despite efforts to discourage their use. We also delve into fringe subjects a bit more than some might appreciate. Confirmed kills during recent conflicts sometimes make the politically correct a bit twitchy. We do not share that unease. A Scout Sniper's successes should be proudly acknowledged. Basically, however, Volume III continues the groundwork laid by DFA I and DFA Il and attempts to tell the stories, the history, the weaponry of USMC Snipers. Volume III is a reference work. It is solid material, and certainly more than a collection of guns and scopes. Of course, we editorialize. If there are aspects of Sniping that we like or do not like, we mention and perhaps elaborate on them. A pertinent example herein is our discussion of variable power telescopic sights. The Corps seems stuck with the 10X. We do not concur. We believe Snipers wish to know. We write for USMC Snipers and for those who may someday command Snipers. We also wish the less initiated to understand the value of Snipers [they can and have turned battles], and to appreciate the deadly world of the finest warrior marksmen ever trained - The United States Marine Corps Scout Snipers.
